England fans pack-out Molineux

Thousands of England fans poured into Molineux last night to see the stars of tomorrow beat Croatia 2-1.

Bearing the crest of the three lions and draped in the flags of St George. More than 23,000 supporters saw West Bromwich Albion star Saido Berahino score the winner from the penalty spot.

The fans took advantage of cheap tickets to watch Gareth Southgate's Under-21s in the first leg of their Euro 2015 play-off encounter.

Adults were charged £10 with children and concession tickets £5 and the enticing prices turned the usual match-day sea of old gold and black to a mass of red, white and blue.

And those in Molineux weren't put off by the awkward 5.45pm kick-off time.

UEFA had insisted on the time to be in line with other nations and to avoid clashing with senior qualifying fixtures being played elsewhere in Europe.

Albion's man of the moment Berahino was crossing enemy lines to lead the England attack, while Manchester United's Luke Shaw, fresh from his £27 million move to Old Trafford and exploits with the senior squad in this summer's world cup, was another of the big names on show.

The second leg takes place on Tuesday as Southgate's youngsters bid to make it to next summer's tournament in the Czech Republic.

The last Under-21 fixture held at Molineux saw England and Poland play out a boring 0-0 draw in front of 28,000 fans in 2008. It was a game that included the emerging talents of England's current number one Joe Hart and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
