Members of the Punjabi Wolves Supporters group (PWS) loaded the treat into their mini-bus before departing for the game at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton, where Wolves played Coventry City on Saturday.

Once there, they hooked up a gas stove on the coach car park and heated up the curry, handing out free bowls of it to hungry passers by including fans, stewards and police officers.

And the curry - which contained more than 40kg of chicken - went down a storm, with all 300 bowls of it disappearing long before kick off.

The food was painstakingly prepared in the early hours of the morning by Dally Uppal, who runs the Uppal Sweet Centre in Blakenhall, using meat provided by butcher Jassa Dehal.

Mr Dehal, of Goldthorn Park, a co-founder of PWS, said the move was a nice way to share the joy of Wolves record-breaking season, which has seen them clinch promotion and the League One title.

"The team has had a fantastic season and as a group of supporters we wanted to share our happiness," said the 39-year-old, who runs Dehal's Butchers on Dudley Road.

"We served everyone who wanted some. I think it helped to create a real sense of unity outside the ground before kick off."

Mr Dehal said the group plans to repeat the stunt at some of the club's games in the Championship next season.

Before kick off the group curried favour with fans of their opponents by unveiling a huge banner demanding 'Keep Coventry City in Coventry'.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
