So Sean Watkins really went above and beyond the call of duty for charity when he was tattooed with the crest of arch rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The blue and white Baggies crest complete with the club's signature throstle is now etched on the 44-year-old's lower back for life.

The fundraising challenge – which he admits 'took some persuasion'– has already netted more than £1,570 for Compton Hospice.

The father-of-two, of Tipton, said: "I got involved in it because my wife Sarah is doing a university degree in business management and as part of the course was to raise money for charity.

"When the idea was first put to me, I took a bit of persuading. But in the end I was persuaded to have it done."

Mr Watkins, who works as a maintenance engineer at Grainger & Worrall in Bridgnorth, has had the tattoo on his lower back.

"At least it means people won't see it all the time but it means I'll be keeping my top on all the time," he said.

And after having the work done yesterday, Mr Watkins said he was feeling 'a bit dumbfounded'.

"People have generally been really supportive of me, while some people think it's hilarious," he added.

"The people at work have all been really good too and have given donations.

"I wanted to do something for Compton Hospice because they do such a brilliant job.
