Police have freed a group of men allegedly being used as slaves at a travellers' site near Leighton Buzzard, writes Peter Rhodes.

The official, politically-correct reason for creating these sites is that they cater for a distinct ethnic group who have "a cultural aversion to bricks and mortar".

That may apply to some travellers.

But you sometimes get the impression that the real joy of living on a site is that the law of the land stops at the main gate.
