It could be years before some of last week's rioters have paid the full price for their crimes, writes Peter Rhodes.

Take, for example the simple matter of visiting the United States which, for most British citizens, does not even require a visa.

But the US visa waiver does not apply to those guilty of what the Yanks call "crimes of moral turpitude". These include theft, burglary, wanton damage and all the other offences involved in rioting.

Ten minutes of mindless looting years ago suddenly catches up with you when you think you are grown-up and respectable.

Now, try explaining to the kids why they won't be going to Disneyland.
