Last week it was Cornish pasties, this week it's the insurance industry, writes Peter Rhodes.

The important thing, when the EU inserts its sticky fingers in British affairs, is not to wear your brain out looking for any logic.

It is clearly ludicrous for the EU to rule that Cornish pasties, a combination of ingredients you can buy anywhere, can be manufactured only in Cornwall.

It is utterly bonkers that insurers must treat high-risk young male drivers exactly the same as cautious females.

In the great Euro-scheme, all that matters is that the same rules, no matter how crackpot, apply across all 27 EU nations.

Each new rule is a gobbet of glue to stick the superstate together.

Whether we want it or not.
