I AM not alone in my disdain for Lark Rise to Candleford (BBC1) whose storylines appear to have been dreamed up by the village idiot, writes Peter Rhodes.

A viewer writes: "Dorcas is becoming so twee, and the postman insufferable! Gabriel looks as if he has had an accident in the toilet department, and son of Dorcas looks like a character from the Beano."

Just as I am nodding along with all this wisdom, she adds recklessly: " Bring Back Howards Way, I say!"
