Davyd Winter-Bates and his fiancee Emma Clark were travelling by train from London to Southampton when they decided to get off two stops early at Eastleigh.

They were promptly fined £57 each on the grounds that their tickets were not valid for "an intermediate station."

A South West Trains spokesman says: "It is important passengers comply with terms and conditions."
