WBA blog: Where are the players?

Albion blogger Jarrod Hill is getting anxious at the lack of new faces at the Hawthorns, with just seventeen days to go until the club kick off back in the Premier League.

With seventeen days to go until the big kick off, I am starting to worry over the lack of new signings.

Although the three made so far have impressed me, it is obvious we need to strengthen right through the team. The squad is lacking in both quality and quantity. Each week I keep expecting to see a flood of new signings.

Mowbray has indicated that he wants as many as six new faces before we meet Arsenal. If Peace can pull it off, the next couple of weeks will be exciting.

The pre season games have indicated little so far as to tactics or preferred player. That said, I would be lying if I did not have a small amount of concern about the results.

I know pre-season results mean nothing come the start of the season, but players need to find form during this important time to hit the ground running come August 16.

One thing that worked well for us last season was the fact we made the majority of our new signings early. It gave them the pre-season to gel together.

My fear is that if we leave it any later than this week the team could suffer. I firmly believe our start to the season holds the key to our success this season.

It still remains to be seen if we make history on the 16th by being the only Premier League team to kick off the season with no shirt sponsor.

The whole situation has made us look a little unprofessional and I hope it is sorted out before we face Arsenal.

I cannot make Northampton tonight as I am off to Scotland this week with work. I am hoping we have some new faces by the time I get back.

If Mowbray wants me to stuff Boyd and Thompson in my suitcase for the return journey just tip me the nod Tony!

My next available pre-season game is at Walsall. I must admit I have a soft spot for the Saddlers and always look out for their results.
