Cannock Chase MP Aidan Burley said adverts for around 300 posts were posted at the fair in Cannock yesterday.

He said people had landed roles there and then and were starting in their new jobs as soon as today.

Around 30 local firms and organisations were at the event including Barclays Bank and Amazon.

Mr Burley said: "It was a great success. We had over 400 local jobseekers.

"People have literally gone straight into work as a result of the jobs fair.

"It's the fourth one I've organised in three years.

"I meet lots of local people struggling to get into work. They want to work locally and this gives them the opportunity to do that."

Mr Burley confirmed he would be organising another jobs fair in the near future to get more local people into employment.

Nicky Smith from Cannock-based homecare provider Allied Healthcare was at the event held in the Premier Suite at Bar Sport in the town centre.

The recruitment officer for the firm said: "There was a really good turnout and we were impressed by the candidates coming through the doors.

"We are continuously taking on people. We were looking to take on community care workers. We had about 20 people interested in working for us."
