Five agricultural students from Staffordshire have each been awarded £1,000 scholarships for their promising work in the industry.
The five, who all attend Harper Adams University College at Edgmond, near Stafford, were presented with their cheques at the Staffordshire County Show by Richard Madders, president of the Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society which runs the event.
Among them was 19-year-old Harriet Wilson, from Haughton, Stafford, in her first year of the BSc (Hons) agri-food marketing with business studies programme.
She said the money would help to subsidise an eight-week food product development placement at Sainsbury's head office in London this summer.
"With a better understanding of supply chains and supermarket demands, I hope to return to the family farm and work alongside my parents to develop our beef enterprise," she said.
