First birthday success for Star Employment Services
The MNA's recruitment agency Star Employment Services has been toasting a year of success as it passes its landmark first birthday. It opened its doors in Queen Street, Wolverhampton, in January 2013.
The MNA, publisher of the Express & Star, broke new ground by launching the employment agency business, a first for a UK news company.
From its opening, the agency has been committed to placing high calibre temporary and permanent staff with local employers.
Twelve months on, the agency has placed almost 200 temporary and permanent staff, working with a number of employers both locally and as far afield as Cumbria.
The number of agency office staff has quadrupled to four to meet the demand from local employers.
Star Employment Service's list of clients includes Montgomeryshire Natural Spring Water, Wolverhampton Pressings, Cousins, GKN Aerospace, Precision Colour Printing and Marston's.
Manager Mike Clare said: "We have had a very encouraging first year. We have 350 people on the books and have placed 164 temporary and 31 permanent staff with our clients.
"Our unique recruitment process has been well received. To stop staff turning up at clients unaware of what is expected, which is a common complaint of local agencies, we introduced a booklet which briefs each candidate on the client's expectations for the role and sets out our code of conduct.
"The feedback for this and other aspects of our business has been very positive. It is important to us that everyone involved, the client, the candidate and our staff, know what is expected."
Mike Clare added: "This year we want to compete with well established agencies in the area.
"There are not many high quality construction agencies within the area. As there are signs that the construction industry is starting to pick up, we will be looking to capitalise on the improvement."
