West Bromwich nappy power plant closes
A £5 million power plant, which turns used nappies into energy, has closed suddenly with the loss of 14 jobs.
Knowaste, which opened back in 2011, was the first facility of its kind in the UK.
Hundreds of thousands of tons of used nappies have been processed at the site in Kelvin Way, West Bromwich, to prevent them going to landfill.
But now bosses say the base is too small for its operation and have launched a search to find new premises.
Knowaste chief executive Roy Brown said: "First and foremost I would like to thank our staff and customers, who have made this groundbreaking development possible.
"Unfortunately, the current site does not meet the future requirements of our business."
The company has not revealed exactly where the new base will be but bosses say they want to open a larger operation somewhere in the West Midlands.
