More than 150 new jobs have been created at an engineering plant in Cannock after a major investment project to relocate production facilities to the town.

German-owned automotive firm ThyssenKrupp Tallent says the jobs boom at its Wolverhampton Road base follows a restructuring within the group.

The company makes products for the motor industry including most major car brands and is a leading supplier in the automotive sector in the UK and abroad.

In a statement today, group chairman and managing director Brian Francis said: "Due to reorganisation plans within the group, the site management was under considerable pressure to move quickly with relocation works.

"Thanks to the cooperation and assistance of the district council and Chamber of Commerce business services, the relocation of production facilities was kept to plan."

He added: "The additional work at the site has led to 150 new jobs at a much-needed time for the Cannock."

To mark the completion, company chiefs invited Cannock MP Aidan Burley and district councillors to tour the new production facilities. Mr Burley said the firm already emplyed 900 people and added: "I am delighted that they are continuing to expand their workforce here in Cannock Chase."

In January the group announced more than 350 jobs were to go at its plant near Cambridge, with some staff moving to other sites including Cannock.
