Chief executive Simon Arora said it had been a record Christmas season for B&M, which has stores across the West Midlands.

The 487 UK B&M stores were up 24.4% from £493.8m a year before to £614.5m, but like-for-like sales were down 0.7%.

On an actual currency basis, total sales revenue increased by 22.8%.

The performance reflects the group's successful store opening programme as well as the combination of mild temperatures impacting the sales of cold weather products and the previously reported lower than normal service levels from its two new distribution centres.

The group opened 15 stores over the quarter and has opened a net 62 in total during the year to date.
