Wolves' stated aim this year was to finish in the top six.

The chief executive dubbed Wolves' campaign as a 'work in progress' – and is unstinting in his belief that good times are ahead at Molineux.

"No-one here is satisfied with what we've done this season," Moxey told the Express & Star. "It's a work in progress. We've got a very good foundation.

"It's great to see eight players finishing a game that have come through the academy.

"I think fans can see that there is a foundation

"We've been stripped of a number of players that have helped us previously, we all know who they are, they've been injured, and so this is a work in progress.

"I know some of our fans don't see it. But we genuinely believe the future is still bright, we really do."

Jackett has come under fire at times with fans vocal in their opposition to his record and tactics this season.

Wolves are 18 points and six places off than they were this time last, and another season of Championship football awaits.

But Moxey has faith in Jackett.

What assurances could the chief executive offer about Jackett's future at the club?

"We believe and I believe that Wolves ought to be able to compete, as a minimum, top six each year we're in the Championship," he said.

"We are disappointed that we're mid-table, but we believe there are a number of very identifiable reasons as to why.

"We do not believe that it's down to our head coach, and I think that answers the question.

"There are significant mitigating factors that have made this season finish where we are finishing.

"It's not an excuse. Did we overachieve last year? I don't know, but we did really well.

"Everyone knows what's happened this season, without poring over it all again.

"There are several mitigating factors."
