Wolves have been dealt an injury blow with the news David Edwards could be out for several weeks with a knee injury.

Edwards, who has been captain in the absence of Danny Batth and since the sale of Richard Stearman, picked up the knock in the early stages of the 0-0 draw with Brighton on Saturday when fouled by Seagulls midfielder Dale Stephens.

The 29-year-old required treatment but played on.

However tests after the game showed that he hyper-extended his knee and he now faces a spell on the sidelines.

With Conor Coady missing for three games owing to his sending off in the same game, it leaves Wolves short of Kenny Jackett's recent first-choice central midfielders for the rest of the month.

And Jackett could also be without Emiliano Martinez, Kortney Hause and Scott Golbourne for tomorrow's Capital One Cup trip to Middlesbrough.

They picked up ankle, knee and foot injuries respectively, but all three are expected to recover for Saturday's Championship game at Deepdale against Preston.

Jackett said of his injured quartet: "From Saturday Dave Edwards looks like he will have a spell on the sidelines.

"The tackle in the first half on him was quite a bad one and he has hyper-extended his knee which looks like it will be quite a few weeks.

"Kortney Hause has a knee injury as well and won't be fit for Middlesbrough by the looks of it but may be fit for the weekend.

"Emi Martinez has an ankle injury which is similar and a day or two by the looks of it.

"Scott Golbourne has a very slight reoccurrence of a foot injury but should be okay in a few days.

"There are a few knocks in there so there will be a few changes but if you are looking at the overall, we have five games in 15 days so using the squad and giving people opportunities is something we want to do."

Meanwhile striker Shola Ameobi, who has been training with Wolves, is set to play in tonight's under-21 fixture at Swansea (kick off 6.30pm).

Free agent Ameobi, who spent 14 years at Newcastle United, was released by Crystal Palace in the summer.

Jackett said of the 33-year-old, who trained with Huddersfield Town last week: "Shola is down for a few days and will play for the under-21s tonight at Swansea.

"We will see how he does in the game as to whether we extend and see whether he can bring some experience to our frontline.

"With his power and his size, ability to hold the ball up and presence in the 18-yard box, is he someone who can offset the forwards we have and give us some balance."

Danny Batth continues his injury comeback in the same game, while midfielder Tommy Rowe is also set to feature.
