Technical director Terry Burton says Pulis will have the final say on any bids for Berahino – although he insists no offers have yet been received.

Meanwhile, Pulis has already identified players he believes can help the club survive in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Tottenham have been linked with £25 million bids for nine-goal Berahino, although neither club has yet been in touch with the Baggies.

Burton said: "Tony's a totally realistic football man. He will do whatever is best for the football club. If he needs to sell somebody for something else he'll sell them, if he wants to keep somebody in, he'll keep them in. He'll do whatever's best to try to get results for the club.

"Tony is head coach. Whatever he wants, we'll do our damnedest to try to make it happen. Tony is in total charge of anything to do with trying to get that result and whatever that takes.

Asked about a £20m offer, Burton said: "I don't think he'd take that small an amount of money. That would be a discussion that Tony would have with us at the time. Saido's worth what some club will pay for him.

"It's like any player, if a club wants him badly enough, if they've got the finances, they will try to do that. There's been nothing happening so far."

Pulis is already drawing up lists of potential January targets.

The Welshman, who has taken over as Hawthorns head coach from the sacked Alan Irvine, said: "There is one target – stay up. That's the most important thing, not to worry about the future.

"It is a short-term thing in terms of getting in the players we think will help us in the next three or four months.

"I've got one or two in mind that I think can help us but we're not down the line with any of them in any way, shape or form at this moment.

"It's all according to what is available and what happens with our players – if there are people who come in and want our players."

Pulis will be joined by No.2 Dave Kemp while he will discuss with the club the possibility of using Gerry Francis, who has acted as an adviser at Stoke and Crystal Palace.

Assistant head coaches Rob Kelly and Keith Downing will stay for the time being with Pulis promising to assess his options for backroom staff.

n Defender Donervon Daniels has returned to Albion at the end of his loan spell with Championship strugglers Blackpool.
