Marlon Bills, 45, of Himley Road, Dudley, is accused of attempted murder, after Lisa Turner sustained a spinal injury and broken ankle in a fall from a third-storey window on December 10 last year.

Prosecutor Geoff Whelan detailed how Bills' previous convictions included guilty pleas to battery in relation to an eight day period in April 2015, when he was described as using a gas powered pistol, a plate, and the end of an air rifle in various assaults on 44-year-old Miss Turner.

Outlining one incident in which Miss Turner was shot in the knee with the pistol, Mr Whelan said: "He told her it was a joke." In another attack during April, he hit her in the face with the end of an air rifle.

At 8.17pm on December 10, a 999 call was received after Miss Turner was found in a critical condition having landed on concrete outside the three-storey block of flats. Mr Whelan said: "She has suffered life changing injuries that still affect her and still require medical treatment."

On Wednesday the jury also heard evidence from West Midlands Police Crime Scene Co-ordinator Jason Harper, who inspected the bathroom window Bills is alleged to have pushed Miss Turner through.

Describing a fabric mark found on the internal surface of the window, he said: "It is not a normal place where I would expect to see a mark like that."

Christopher Whitehouse, defending, questioned whether the mark could have been caused by someone sitting on the window sill, and highlighted the close proximity of a cigarette lighter.

Miss Turner alleges that Bills, 45, pushed her out of the bathroom window of the flat, before peeling her fingers away from the window sill as she desperately clung on, sending her crashing to the floor below, resulting in her injuries

Bills denies attempted murder and two counts of attempting to resist arrest. The trial at Birmingham Crown Court continues.
