The Sutton Coldfield groups awarded grants by Town Council

More than £200,000 was allocated to community groups in Sutton Coldfield this year thanks to the Town Council’s Community Grant Scheme.

Councillor David Pears revealed the figure as he reported on the activities of the Amenities, Leisure and Community Services Committee at the annual town council meeting at the Trinity Centre on Tuesday night.

"This year, committee allocated just under £236k to 27 community groups," he said.

"We supported sport by giving grants totalling £68,825 towards improving sports facilities at venues throughout the town including the replacement of the floodlights at Sutton Town Football Club and Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club.

"And £10,000 was allocated to environment-related projects including works at Hill Hook Nature Reserve and Newhall Valley Country Park," he added.

In addition, £13,000 was allocated to arts and culture projects, including £10,000 for the Mubu Music Live in Lodge Music Project.

And £20,000 was allocated to churches for building improvements, £17,550 to schools to improve facilities for pupils and £13,130 to the Scouts for activities for young people.

Further grants included £24,504 being allocated to support the Falcon Lodge Community Plan, £30,000 to Health and Wellbeing projects and £38,924 was given in emergency grants to organisations working to support residents during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
