It comes as Sally Roberts, chief nurse for the Black Country and West Birmingham CCGs, announced the mass vaccination site at Birmingham's Millennium Point – which is one of seven named by the Government this week – will open on Monday and people are already being contacted for appointments.

Ms Roberts told the West Midlands Combined Authority briefing: "Vaccines are the way out of this pandemic. An effective vaccine is the best way to protect people from the virus.

"We're making great progress in rolling it out in the Black Country and West Birmingham to those who are most vulnerable.

"All four trusts in the Black Country and West Birmingham now have hospital hubs up and running, and all of our primary care network sites are now operational and delivering the vaccine to those individuals aged over 80, care home staff and our priority groups of health and care staff.

"Primary care has commenced delivery of vaccine to care home residents in between Christmas and New Year, and our first Covid vaccination centre will be the Black Country Living Museum.

"Millennium Point is the first Covid vaccination centre going live in Birmingham very shortly.

"We have in the past few days received supplies of AstraZeneca vaccine to primary care sites too.

"In respect of the Black Country Living Museum standing up, that's the week after Millennium Point but we're still waiting for full confirmation. We are ready, we're on daily calls just ironing out all the fine lines."

Ms Roberts added: "We are in the push mechanism, we get a drop of vaccine and then use and we very much want to be able to plan better through a pull methodology and we're being told that that will be available within the next two weeks, around January 25.

"Practices will request through a national system. At the moment what we get is a national push down so we know practice A will receive X amount and they plan around that. But this way the practice will determine I need X amount of doses."

Ms Roberts also said she was not in contact with any military personnel at the moment in regards to the roll out.
