There were delays for drivers of up to 90 minutes as all traffic was being forced through the one lane which remained open.

The crash happened shortly after 8am this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that at 7.47am they were called to a three vehicle collision.

It involved two vehicles in the hard shoulder and one in the middle lane, including a crane.

An ambulance and paramedic area support officer attended within five minutes.

The WMAS spokesman said: "A 29-year-old male was the only patient, who complained of muscle pain. He self-extricated before arrival of the service and made his own way home."

There were also early morning delays on the M6 between junction 10a and for the M54 and junction nine after an accident.

Walsall fire station tweeted these pictures showing the extent of the damage.

Ambulance service officials also confirmed they had attended another crash this morning on the M6, at 5.41am.

This involved a car and a lorry, but no injuries were reported.

It caused two lanes to be blocked, with queuing traffic in all four lanes.

Two patients were looked over by the attending ambulance and paramedic support officer, but were not taken to hospital.

All lanes have now been reopened.
