Staffordshire Police confirmed the site off the A5195 Milestone Way was closed off around 2.30pm for bomb disposal experts to move in and carry out a controlled explosion on what was descrobed as a bomb or shell.

Residents in the area were warned they may hear 'a loud bang' as well as experience 'earth tremors'.

The force confirmed the device was successfully detonated around 3.20pm.

The corden around the area and the nearby road was subsequently lifted shortly after.

It comes after bomb disposal experts attended the same site at the end of February to deal with an unexploded grenade.

The land, near Burntwood's Morrisons supermarket, is currently under construction for a new housing development being built by Taylor Wimpey.
