Belbroughton shop raided by robbers wielding hammers and baseball bats

Armed robbers wielding hammers and baseball bats threatened a cashier during a raid on a convenience shop in a village near Stourbridge.

Five thieves wearing balaclavas approached McColl's on Belbroughton high street yesterday evening.

Four members of the group are believed to have entered the store, demanding money from the cashier and threatening him.

Two raiders took cash from the till, cigarettes and alcohol, while the other two pushed another employee to the floor.

No-one was injured but the cashier and his male colleague were left shaken up by the raid.

All four fled the scene on foot down an alleyway, in Forge Lane, to a car parked in Nash Lane.

The five offenders in total were reported to be wearing hoodies, one was thought to have been dressed in grey jeans and three were believed to be in black bottoms.

One had white gloves and another was wearing black shoes with white soles.

The robbery took place at about 8.45pm.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt Alex Wheeler from West Mercia Police, said: "We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in Forge Lane or Nash Lane between 8pm and 9pm as they may have information which would help with our investigation."
