Published

Being energy smart isn't just good for the environment - it's great for our bank balances too.

Brits are wasting money every year paying energy bills that could be reduced.

But the good news is there are plenty of things you can do to start saving money.

Smart meters are one piece of technology which cut costs by measuring gas and electricity used, allowing you to take control of the way you use energy - instead of simply paying for what may have been incorrectly estimated on your bill.

You can also change the way you consume energy at home by switching off devices and by taking a tiny bit less time in the shower.

Take our quiz below - created using stats from the Energy Savings Trust and Smart Energy GB - to find out how plugged in you are when it comes to being energy smart...

Smart meters are currently being fitted by gas and electricity companies at no extra cost, thanks to the biggest improvement to our energy infrastructure in decades, which will see the devices offered to every home in Great Britain (that's more than 50 million smart meters) by 2020.
