People in the West Midlands are most likely to take their own tea on holiday according to a new report.

A survey carried out by Travelsupermarket revealed that 35 per cent of holidaymakers from the West Midlands admit to taking tea bags in their suitcase, more than the tea-loving folk of Yorkshire, 31 per cent of whom take their own tea with them.

A further one in 10 reveal they also stash a packet of biscuits to dunk in their tea and 10 per cent also bring British crisps and snacks with them on their holidays.

Despite their appetite for a taste of home, people from West Midlands do like to sample local flavours. Nearly half, 46 per cent, say they go out of their way to try typical cuisine, whilst almost 30 per cent say they always try one local dish even if they don't like the sound of it.

Indeed, travellers from our region spend most of their budget on food and eating out, with a fifth saying they wouldn't compromise on the quality of food.

West Midlands holidaymakers also spend an average of £1,092 per person on their main annual holiday, including flights and accommodation – that's £165 less than tourists from East Midlands.

This figure is perhaps down to their spending habits as they are amongst the least likely to save before going overseas, according to the report. Just a quarter of West Midlands residents say they religiously put a set amount of money to one side before they go on holiday.

A total of 49 per cent of people from the West Midlands prefer holidays in the sun, with 29 per cent enjoying lying in the sun- with 13 per cent of the Black Country's travellers saying the location to the beach is a major factor when booking a holiday.
