There are not many people who would choose to get married at work.

But the Houses of Parliament provided the backdrop for Conservative MP Aidan Burley to marry Jodie Jones.

The couple, now honeymooning in Bali, tied the knot in the Crypt Chapel at the Palace of Westminster last week.

Mr Burley, MP for Cannock Chase, proposed to the new Mrs Burley, aged 25, last summer while overseas.

The new Mrs Burley works for her husband at his constituency office in High Green Court in Cannock town centre.

The wedding was in The Chapel of St Mary Undercroft within the Houses of Parliament followed by a reception in the Members' Dining Room.

Mrs Burley is an independent councillor for Cannock Chase's Rawnsley ward.

And Mr Burley, aged 35, is standing down as an MP at the next election.

His decision came following heavy criticism of his participation in a stag party in France in 2011, where he supplied the groom with a Nazi uniform.

The groom, Mark Fournier, was prosecuted and fined £1,250 because wearing such uniforms is illegal in France. There had also been a Nazi-themed toast by some participants.

An internal Conservative inquiry accepted that Mr Burley had found the toast 'deeply offensive', and had not been present during any chanting.

But it took more than two years for the court case to conclude and for the report to be revealed.

Mr Burley won the Cannock Chase constituency in 2010 with the biggest swing to the Tories in the country. Prior to his victory the seat had been held by Labour for 18 years.

The seat's majority of 3,195 makes it one of the key marginal's that both Labour and the Tories need to win.

The couple said their wedding was 'a private affair' but shared a picture of themselves cutting their cake, made of layers of different cheeses.

The Conservatives will try to hold on to Cannock Chase with new candidate Amanda Milling, aged 39, at next year's election.

The Burton-on-Trent-born businesswoman is a company director for a market research business in Leeds.

Other Tories in Cannock Chase have also faced a difficult few years with the loss of seats on the district council. In May they were left neck and neck with UKIP and Mrs Burley's resignation from their group left them in third place.

She had previously chaired the Cannock Chase Conservative Association.
