The decision to shut the site is part of a massive overhaul of services for disabled adults in the county.

However, it is not part of Staffordshire County Council's £109 million budget cuts over the next five years.

Campaigners spoke of their disappointment after the meeting, adding they are now worried about the future of provision for adults with learning disabilities.

Eight other centres in Cannock, Lichfield, Stafford, Kidsgrove, two in Newcastle, Burton and Tamworth will also either close, move or downsize, it was agreed.

It was also agreed during the meeting that one third of Staffordshire's schools will have their budgets cut.

Reviews will also be undertaken on the future of the county's library services.
