Wolverhampton and Stafford colleagues lace up for London Marathon challenge

Two colleagues from Wolverhampton and Stafford are aiming to raise £5,500 for Cure Leukaemia by running next year’s London Marathon

Two colleagues at a Midlands law firm are preparing to run the London Marathon to raise thousands of pounds for a blood cancer charity, inspired by personal connections to the cause.

Chantelle Steel, a residential property paralegal at Davisons Law’s Wolverhampton office, and Mia Beddows, a new-build property conveyancer at the firm’s Stafford office, have each set themselves a fundraising target of £2,750 for Cure Leukaemia ahead of next year’s 26.2-mile race.

Together, they have already raised £2,351 towards their combined £5,500 target, with Chantelle having collected £1,411 and Mia £940.

For Mia, the challenge is particularly personal after she lost her childhood football coach to leukaemia last year. She is also following in the footsteps of her mum, who has inspired her through a lifelong passion for marathon running.

Mia said: “My mum has always run marathons, and growing up watching her has been a huge inspiration to me. Taking on a marathon myself is something I’ve wanted to do to follow in her footsteps and, most importantly, make her proud.

“When I found out that Davisons works closely with Cure Leukaemia, it made the opportunity even more meaningful. I sadly lost my childhood football coach to leukaemia last year, so this is a cause that holds a very special place in my heart.”

Chantelle said running 26.2 miles would be a major personal challenge, but knowing the money raised could support people affected by leukaemia made the effort worthwhile.

She said: “The training, early mornings, long runs and inevitable tough days will all be worth it. I’m hoping to turn the challenge into something positive that can make a real difference.”

The pair are planning a series of fundraising events to boost their totals, including a virtual race night and auction at Oxley Golf Club in Wolverhampton on February 25, 2027.

A quiz night and auction is also being planned in Stafford for next year, alongside dress-down days, bake sales and a charity football match.

Davisons Law is a founding member of Cure Leukaemia’s Club 10 and has supported the charity through a number of fundraising events.

Anthony Myles, director at the firm’s Stafford office, said colleagues were backing the pair as they prepared for the challenge.

He said: “Cure Leukaemia is a charity that means a great deal to us as a firm, and seeing two of our own colleagues putting in the hard miles to support its work makes us all very proud.”

Cure Leukaemia was founded in 2003 and funds specialist blood cancer research nurses at centres across the UK, helping patients access pioneering treatments through clinical trials.
