Cygnet Heathers, on Grout Street, is a finalist in the Outstanding Patient and Family Support category at the 2026 Neurological and Complex Care Awards.

The 20-bed neuropsychiatric hospital supports men with mental health difficulties and acquired brain injuries and has been recognised for its work involving families and carers throughout the care process.

The nomination follows the hospital receiving the Triangle of Care Star 1 Award, an accreditation recognising services that demonstrate a commitment to involving and supporting unpaid carers.

The Triangle of Care is a quality improvement scheme which encourages health and social care providers to work closely with carers to improve safety, recovery and wellbeing.

During the assessment, reviewers praised Cygnet Heathers for creating a strong framework to identify and support carers, ensuring they are kept informed and involved in decisions about their loved one's care.

The hospital provides carer awareness training for all staff and has dedicated Carer Leads to support families. It also offers drop-in sessions, signposting to local services and events designed to bring carers and staff together.

Hospital manager Hayley Walker said: "We are absolutely delighted that Cygnet Heathers has been shortlisted for Outstanding Patient and Family Support.

"Families and carers are incredibly important partners in the care we provide. They know their loved ones in a way nobody else can and we want them to feel listened to, respected, informed and supported throughout their time with us.

"Our Triangle of Care accreditation was an important recognition of the progress we have made, but we have always seen that as part of an ongoing journey. We continue to look at how we can strengthen carer engagement and make sure those principles are embedded throughout the service.

"To now be recognised nationally at the Neurological and Complex Care Awards is something the whole team can be extremely proud of."

Cygnet's neurological services have secured 19 finalist places across this year's awards, with the group also shortlisted for Best Neurological Care Provider, an award it won in 2025.

The winners will be announced on October 27.
