Sandwell African Caribbean Mental Health Foundation (SACMHF) received the award at a ceremony at Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on Friday, October 2.

The charity has supported African Caribbean communities for 32 years, providing services for people experiencing mental ill health in Sandwell and the surrounding area.

Its work includes counselling, support for bereaved carers and families, and community outreach. It provides support for people of African Caribbean and dual heritage.

SACMHF was shortlisted alongside Creative Rhino Mahogany and Inclusion Partners for the award.

Richard McDonald, a member of the charity’s board of trustees, said: “This award is wonderful recognition for the dedicated team at SACMHF and for the difference the charity has made over the past 32 years.

“Its culturally responsive services give people support that understands their experiences, their families and their communities. We are incredibly proud to see this work recognised nationally, and we hope the award helps more people across Sandwell and the surrounding area learn about the support available to them.”

Denise Myers, founder of the Black Talent Awards, said this year’s finalists reflected Black professional achievement across a range of sectors and communities.

She said: “This year’s finalists represent the breadth of that journey. They are working in boardrooms, classrooms, businesses, communities and organisations across the country, demonstrating that Black excellence is not confined to one postcode. Bringing the awards back to Edgbaston Stadium for our fifth anniversary is incredibly meaningful because this is where the Black Talent Awards started. The story is now national.”

The awards marked their fifth anniversary this year, with more than 300 nominations considered by an independent judging panel.
