Sighthound Spotlight Day shines a light on overlooked breeds
Greyhounds, whippets and more in the spotlight today.
Sighthounds will be firmly in the spotlight today as Sighthound Spotlight Day (April 30) celebrates breeds including greyhounds, whippets, lurchers, salukis, galgos and longdogs.

Created by Clare Ware of Insight Hounds, the day aims to highlight their unique traits, the joy they bring to homes, and raise awareness for those still waiting to be adopted. It also brings together rescues, volunteers and communities across the country who share a passion for these often misunderstood dogs.
Among those taking part is the largest volunteer only led greyhound rehoming charity in the UK, Home Run Hounds. The charity’s dogs, each with their own personalities, will be showcased on their social media pages with the hashtag #SighthoundSpotlightDay to help challenge common myths and show just how gentle and affectionate sighthounds can be.

From lively, playful characters to calm companions, the team hopes the event will encourage more people to consider giving a retired greyhound a home.

Volunteers of the charity play a vital role, giving their time daily to care for the dogs and support events like this. From cleaning kennels and preparing meals to walking and socialising the hounds, their efforts ensure every dog is ready for a fresh start.

Sighthound Spotlight Day not only highlights the dogs themselves, but also recognises the dedication of those working behind the scenes to help them find their forever homes.
