Record numbers turn out for the Stafford Half Marathon and Fun Run
Stafford was buzzing with energy on Sunday 22 March 2026, as more than 2,200 runners participated in the annual Stafford Half Marathon, alongside over 300 entrants in the community‑focused Fun Run. Organised by Freedom Leisure in partnership with Stafford Borough Council, the event enjoyed glorious sunshine, creating ideal conditions for both seasoned runners and first‑time participants.
This year also saw outstanding performances at the front of the field with Saffron Latham of City of Stoke Athletics Club first female over the line in a time of 1:20:01 and the male winner was Lee Gratton of Rugeley Runners, finishing in a time of 1:05:32. The Under 21 category was won by Matthew Hilsdon and Megan Smith.
The sunshine brought out supporters in their thousands, lining the streets to encourage runners along the scenic route through Stafford. The atmosphere throughout the town was vibrant, with families, volunteers and spectators all contributing to the success of the day.
Ross Stephenson, Events Director at Freedom Leisure, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the record number of participants at this year’s Stafford Half Marathon and Fun Run. The atmosphere was incredible, and it was fantastic to welcome runners of all abilities to enjoy the event in perfect weather conditions. We are now busy planning our next major event, the Stafford 10K. With 2026 marking the 10th anniversary of the 10K, we’re excited to deliver a truly memorable experience for our running community.”
