'Pupils flourish' at Dudley school, says Ofsted

“We are incredibly proud of this outcome”

The Link Academy in Netherton has been praised by Ofsted as an “ambitious and inclusive school” where “pupils flourish,” following its May 2026 inspection. Inspectors noted a calm, respectful, and supportive community where pupils “feel safe,” have “excellent attitudes to learning,” and benefit from strong pastoral care.

The academy achieved a Strong standard in four key areas: attendance and behaviour, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing. Achievement, curriculum, and teaching met the Expected standard, as did safeguarding. Achieving four Strong standards is a significant accomplishment, with few schools in the region earning so many under Ofsted’s new framework.

A central theme of the report is The Link Academy’s inclusive culture. Inspectors found that pupils from diverse backgrounds learn to understand and respect differences, creating a “harmonious school community where everyone feels accepted.”

Ofsted highlighted the school’s support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), noting their needs are “accurately and swiftly identified and assessed.” Pupils with SEND access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers, and the school has developed effective partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies.

Ofsted also praised the academy’s “very well-thought-out programme” for personal development, covering safety, healthy relationships, equality, and future choices. Pupils build confidence and character through leadership roles, clubs, performances, trips, and careers guidance.

Principal Emma Edwards-Morgan stated, “We are incredibly proud of this outcome because it reflects the school we know every day: a community where pupils feel safe, accepted and encouraged to succeed.” Jo Higgins, CEO at Dudley Academies Trust, added, “This is a significant achievement for The Link Academy and a powerful recognition of the school’s inclusive ethos.” Judith Humphry, Chair of the Board of Trustees, commented, “Trustees are very pleased that Ofsted has recognised The Link Academy’s strengths so clearly.”
