Phase one of clubhouse refurbishment completed at Wombourne sports club

Wombourne Cricket, Tennis and Bowling Club (Wombourne CTB Club) has officially opened its brand-new restroom facilities, following the completion of a £50,000 project.

The new restroom facilities are phase one of a £115,000 project to refurbish the club’s changing and showering facilities. The club’s facilities have recently fallen short of the high standards the trustees strive to maintain. Recognising that the infrastructure no longer matches the aspirations of a growing community sports hub, the club prioritised the renovation to enhance the experience for its dedicated members, visiting guests, and employees.

The overall renovation project will consist of moving and updating all the toilets and changing and showering facilities at the club, with the new facilities including disabled access. This will allow a wider diverse group of users including ladies, girls and mix gender groups, to ensure that more members of the community to be able to utilise the facilities at any given time.

To enable the full project to happen and free up some space, the club first needed to move the existing toilet facilities (used by all club members) into an adjacent area of the clubhouse. Now this has been completed, they can move on to phase two and refurbish the cricket changing area and develop the segregated facilities for male, female and junior cricket members.

The club, which was founded in 1875, is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, and needed to apply for grants to get the project off the ground. A grant of £50,000 from Enovert Community Trust (ECT), provided through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), enabled phase one to go ahead.

Chairman Peter Harkness, Chairman, Wombourne CTB Club, said: “We are incredibly proud to finally show off these facilities. They represent more than just an interior renovation; they signify our commitment to the future of the club and the well-being of everyone who passes through our doors.”

“Completion of phase one of this ambitious project was made possible through the generous support of the Enovert Community Trust, whose grant was the cornerstone of the project, helping to turn, a long-held vision into a reality. The trustees wish to extend their deepest gratitude to Enovert for recognising the value this project brings to the Wombourne community.”

Located in the heart of the village, Wombourne CTB Club is dedicated to fostering local talent and providing a social hub for residents. With over 2,000 members, and open seven days a week, the facilities provide a space for the whole community to use.

Angela Haymonds, Trust Manager of Enovert Community Trust, said: “Wombourne CTB Club provides a vital facility for the whole local community, so the Trustees were very pleased to have been able to support this project with the goal of increasing the use of the club and its activities.”
