New president takes the helm at Rotary Club of Cannock
‘Fun, Fellowship & Friendship’
The Rotary Club of Cannock has a new president for the forthcoming year, with current incumbent Alan Matkin passing the role to Colin Sutton.

Thanking club members for their support throughout the past year, Alan gave a review of the projects undertaken both locally and internationally. The club has supported many local charities and good causes through funds raised at its Christmas collections, while fundraising events have also been held throughout the year to support international projects. Overall, it was a very successful year.
New club president Colin Sutton is one of the club’s longest-serving members, having joined in 1985 and previously served as club president in 1996/97. Having only recently retired from his architectural practice, Colin brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Colin said his theme for the year will be ‘Fun, Fellowship & Friendship’. With the support of his team and fellow club members, he is positive about the year ahead. The club is always looking to recruit new members; however, it already has a strong and committed membership which he feels sure will support the many events planned for the forthcoming year.
Colin introduced his new team, which includes president elect Mel Wilton, who will become president in 2027/28, secretary Harold Bould, treasurer David Gardiner and fellowship officer Cliff Shore. Also in place are members leading on community and international projects.
The club’s youth support officer will continue working with local schools and youth groups, giving young people the opportunity to take part in Rotary schools’ competitions.
The club already has a number of social activities planned, the first of which is a fellowship bowls event at Cannock Bowling Green Club on July 22.
The club also has an active sports programme, competing against other clubs in District 1210 in snooker, darts, ten-pin bowling, table tennis, croquet and crown green bowling.
The club will continue to work with other local Rotary clubs and organisations to provide support to people in need, both locally and internationally.
