New football team featuring TV and sports stars to make Bilston debut
TV and sporting stars will take on NHS staff in the charity clash
A new football team set up to represent The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust charity is ready for its big kick-off and a first fixture taking place at Bilston Town in October.
It was back in June that the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity and fundraiser Robbie Meakin announced the launch of Your RWTC FC. The official football team of the charity will see local stars of sport, television, film, radio and social media come together to raise money through fundraising matches.
Your RWTC FC have now revealed details of their first match, which will see Meakin's squad take on a team of Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Staff managed by Josh Baker, a Theatre Support Assistant.
Ahead of the match, organiser Meakin, who is also known for his role as Club Ambassador at AFC Wolverhampton City, said: "I've worked hard on getting Your RWTC FC off the ground and I can't wait for the big curtain raiser.
“I was a keen fundraiser for Your RWTC but I've felt a greater need to get involved since I was diagnosed with cancer last April, because the care I have received has been incredible.
“As soon as I spoke to Josh about wanting to have our opening match against staff from the Trust, he threw himself into helping out. Hats off to him, and I'm really looking forward to it.
“I'd like to my wife Lauren, my squad and the sponsors for their backing and I'd also like to thank Bilston Town for hosting. Hopefully we’ll see a good crowd at Queen Street."
Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager for Your RWTC, said: "This initiative is a brilliant example of how community spirit and a shared love of football can come together to make a real difference.
"By taking charity matches out into the community, we’ll be able to raise even more vital funds and awareness. We can’t wait to see the impact it will have."
The big match will take place at Bilston Town's Queen Street stadium (WV14 7EX) on Sunday, October 4. Entry is £5 or £2 for under 12s. Cash and card will be accepted at the turnstile, but cash is preferred if possible.
Included in the Your RWTC FC squad are: Alex Henry (Married At First Sight), Andy Pearce (My Mum Your Dad), Harry Lowbridge (Coronation Street), Idris Virgo (Love Island & Misfits Boxing), Inside The Baller (Content Creator), Kyle Perry (ex-Walsall & The Pezzadox Show), Spencer Elcock (Peaky Blinders).
