Melissa Green addresses Staffordshire WI annual meeting

The Annual Meeting of Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes was held on Zoom this month. Delegates from WIs across the county welcomed Melissa Green, CEO of the National Federation of Women's Institutes who spoke of the way that the organisation is evolving to meet the needs of women in the 21st century.

Melissa gave an overview of the past year from National's perspective - it was strong and vibrant.

She charted the history of the WI from its beginning in 1915 as it wove through the 20th century, adapting and reflecting the needs of women in society and it is still doing so with flexibility being a key component.

The WI is as relevant now as it always has been and has a magnificent reputation - the organisation is strong, influential, sensible and trusted.

Reports from the Chairs of the Staffordshire Federation's committees gave a flavour of what was offered to WI members during the year and what is planned. There is something for everyone at the WI including a learning hub that is available free of charge to members and at a low cost to non members, making it accessible to all women.

The WI is certainly not just Jam & Jerusalem!

Staffordshire members and non-members will be able to access a Wellness Day event later in the year at the Staffordshire County Showground. This will be free of charge, thanks to successful bidding for funding from the Denman Trust.

Helen Mancey has been re-elected to the role of Federation Chair and said: "It is an exciting time to be part of the WI, the largest women's organisation in England, Wales and The Islands. We offer education, friendship, support and fun. Each WI has something to offer and the Federation events bring us all together."
