Local opticians take on 10k race for children’s hospital
Colleagues prepare for 10k charity run.
A team of dedicated colleagues from a Stafford opticians are preparing to take on a 10k charity run this September, raising funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital in support of a young customer whose life was changed following a routine visit to the store.

The team of nine from the locally owned and run Specsavers store were inspired to take on the challenge after playing a crucial role in helping to identify serious health concerns in a young girl, Harper Gibson, during an eye examination last year. Following the team’s swift action and referral, Harper was later diagnosed with cancer and received specialist treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Now, in a heartwarming update, three-year-old Harper has completed her treatment and proudly “rung the bell” to mark being cancer free - a milestone that has motivated the team even further in their fundraising efforts.
Specsavers Stafford store director, Satinder Mahal, says: “Harper’s story has stayed with all of us. As a team, we’re trained to look beyond vision and consider wider health, but it’s moments like this that really bring home the importance of what we do. Seeing Harper come through her treatment and reach this milestone is incredibly moving.
“We wanted to do something meaningful to support both her family and the hospital that cared for her and taking part in the 10k felt like a great way to come together, challenge ourselves and give back.”
The funds raised will go towards supporting the vital work of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which provides life-saving treatment and care for young patients and their families across the region.
The Specsavers Stafford team is encouraging the local community to get behind the challenge and support their fundraising efforts.
