Free dementia devices launched to help keep Lichfield residents safe
People living with dementia and their carers can access free identification devices designed to help them stay safe and be reunited with loved ones if they become lost or confused
People living with dementia across Lichfield District are being offered free devices designed to help them stay safe and be reunited with their loved ones if they become lost or confused.

Lichfield District Council has funded 2,000 Find My Loved One devices, which are being distributed free of charge through local social enterprise Grace Cares and dementia support organisations across the district.
The identification devices are intended to give people living with dementia greater confidence to remain active and independent, while providing reassurance for their families and carers.
Available as a wristband, keyfob on a lanyard or hang tag, each device uses Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology. A member of the public or emergency services can tap the device with a smartphone to access information provided by the wearer or their carer, helping them contact a loved one and reunite the person safely.
The technology has been developed by safeguarding technology company Lumiio.
The scheme was officially launched this week at Grace Cares, which is working alongside the council, Alzheimer's Society, Magnolia Friends and Dementia Support to make the devices available to local residents.
Councillor Richard Cox, Lichfield District Council's Cabinet Member for Community and Public Protection, said becoming lost or confused could be frightening and distressing for people living with dementia and those who care for them.
He said the council wanted residents to remain active and independent while giving families extra reassurance, adding that the scheme was a positive example of organisations working together to provide practical support for local people.
Emma Smith, of Grace Cares, said the devices offered "an important extra layer of reassurance" for families and carers and could help someone return safely to the people who care for them.
The free devices are available to Lichfield District residents living with dementia and related conditions.
