Cannock Chase children invited to name new food waste wagons
“This competition is a fantastic way to inspire creativity while helping children understand the importance of reducing waste”
Creative youngsters across Cannock Chase are being invited to leave their mark on the district's newest recycling service by helping to name a fleet of food waste collection wagons.

Cannock Chase Council has launched a competition for children aged 16 and under to come up with creative and memorable names for six new food waste collection vehicles.
The winning names will be displayed on the wagons as they travel across the district, giving young residents the chance to see their ideas showcased in communities for years to come.
The competition follows the successful launch of food waste collections in April. Residents recycled more than 300 tonnes of food waste in the first four weeks of the service, equivalent to the weight of two blue whales. Early figures also show that the scheme has reduced the amount of waste being placed in general rubbish bins.
Councillor John Parkes, Cannock Chase Council's Portfolio Leader for Operational Services and Parks, said: "Food waste collections have already made a fantastic start across the district and I want to personally thank residents for their participation.
"This competition is a fantastic way to inspire creativity while helping children understand the importance of reducing waste and protecting our environment. I'm really looking forward to seeing the imaginative names they come up with and giving them the opportunity to play a part in this important service."
The initiative aims to encourage conversations about recycling and sustainability among families and schools, helping to promote positive environmental habits from a young age.
Each winning entrant will receive a certificate, an eco-themed goody bag provided by Biffa, and the opportunity to have their photograph taken with their newly named wagon.
Tony Darbyshire, Senior Business Manager at Biffa, said: "At Biffa, we're proud to support initiatives that engage local communities and encourage positive environmental habits. This competition is a great way to get young people involved and excited about recycling, and we're delighted to provide prizes for the winners. We can't wait to see these wagons out on the road with their new names."
Children aged 16 and under can submit their entries by emailing [email protected] by Friday, September 11.
