The Heathland Heroes event takes place from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, November 7, with volunteers helping to clear scrub and remove birch trees spreading across the open heathland.

The event is being organised by Walsall Council Countryside Services, Walsall Conservation Volunteers and the Birmingham and Black Country Amphibian and Reptile Group.

The work aims to encourage heather to grow and create better conditions for heathland species, including common lizards.

No previous conservation experience is needed, and tools and guidance will be provided.

Councillor Matt Eason, the council’s portfolio holder for culture, health and wellbeing, said Pelsall North Common was an important local habitat and encouraged people interested in nature to take part.

Volunteers should meet at Wood Lane car park, Pelsall, WS3 5DZ.

Anyone wanting to take part can register their interest by emailing [email protected]
