Brownhills Canal Festival returns to Silver Street this weekend
‘Visitors can look forward to a vibrant mix of floating traders, historic boats and land‑based stalls, alongside community groups and heritage displays’
Brownhills Canal Festival is set to return to Silver Street, in Brownhills this weekend (August 15-16), 10am-4pm, bringing two full days of boats, traders, charities and family activities to the Wyrley & Essington Canal.

The festival has been running for several years and continues to grow in popularity. It is organised by Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (LHCRT) as part of its work to promote Brownhills as a canal town and highlight the future role of the restored Lichfield Canal.

Visitors can look forward to a vibrant mix of floating traders, historic boats and land‑based stalls, alongside community groups and heritage displays.
The event aims to encourage local engagement, and showcase how the restoration of the Lichfield Canal will bring new life, activity and opportunity back to Brownhills in the years ahead, as the canal becomes part of the route through to the Coventry Canal and the wider canal network.

Christine Howles, Communications and Marketing Trustee at LHCRT, said: “We’re delighted to bring Brownhills Canal Festival back again this year. With Brownhills sitting at the top end of the Lichfield Canal, it’s the perfect place to bring the community together, showcase the canal at Silver Street, and highlight how the Lichfield Canal restoration will benefit the town in the years ahead. The festival has become a popular and positive celebration of what this canal can mean for Brownhills.

“Despite the summer weather threatening us with water shortages across the canal network for another year, we’re pleased to say that all of our boats are still on track to make it as planned.”
Admission is free, and full details, including maps, accessibility information and trader listings, can be found on the Brownhills Canal Festival page: lhcrt.org.uk/brownhills-canal-festival.
