Dudley families urged to swap costumes at local libraries

With little time left before World Book Day on Thursday 5 March, parents and carers in Dudley are being reminded that last year’s costume can be swapped for another at Brierley Hill, Gornal, Wordsley and Halesowen libraries.

Many schools encourage children to dress up as a favourite book character for the event and exchanging an outfit is a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to buying new.

It’s the second year that Brierley Hill Library has run the swap and, following its success, three more libraries in the Dudley area are now offering the opportunity too.

“World Book Day is coming up fast and that’s why we’re encouraging people to exchange last year’s clothes,” said Dudley Libraries Partnership Manager Stephanie Rhoden.

“The swaps are entirely free and, since 2026 is the National Year of Reading, getting involved and enthusing youngsters about books is more important than ever.”
