Match report: Stourport Hocky Club
The men's 2nd XI side, fielding six Under 15's players, were beaten 0-4 when they travelled to Leek on Saturday (October 18) to take on the club's 2nd XI in the Midlands Men's Division 4 West. The visitors put in a strong battling performance, working tirelessly throughout and put in a performance that they can be proud of. But some clinical finishing resulted in two goals in each half, which secured the three points for the home side.
With a 6pm push back, the ladies' 1st XI entertained Oxford Hawks 1st XI under the floodlights at 'The Kingsway', as they secured all three points with a 2-1 victory in the Midlands Women's Conference League. Stourport had an excellent start with some lovely team hockey, which resulted in a reverse hit from Captain Sophie Thompson to give the home side the lead after three minutes. Stourport continued to pressure the visitors' defence by penetrating their 'D' and producing several shots. After forty minutes, Lucy Walton added Stourport's second with a deflected shot from a short corner.
Oxford pressed Stourport as well with the home defence and keeper having to work very hard to keep the score at 1-0 as they entered the last 15 minutes, and then on the final whistle, Oxford were awarded a short corner and after a goal line scramble, the visitors pulled a goal back. In what was an excellent performance from Stourport, they secured the three points with a 2-1 victory.
