Rugeley Lions host captivating portrayal of young Margaret Thatcher
Rugeley and District Lions Club were pleased to host another historical event in partnership with St Mary's Church, Colton, near Rugeley. Our event was the early life story of Margaret Thatcher, who was brilliantly portrayed by Historian Lesley Smith, retired Curator of Tutbury Castle.
Club President Debra Coburn, said: “We had a fantastic turnout for our latest evening of history, featuring Lesley Smith as Margaret Thatcher at St. Mary’s Church, Colton, near Rugeley. The church dates back to the 12th century, with major renovations taking place in the 1850s. It proved to be a wonderful venue for the event, and we wholeheartedly thank Rev. Lynne Dean for allowing us to use the church and for opening the evening.

"We have been hosting our history evenings with Lesley since 2019, as she always delivers and brings history to life. Her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher was exceptional and greatly enjoyed by both us and the audience.”
Lions on duty were Club President Debra, Elaine, John, Peter, Pauline, Jane, and John P.
