Cannock Chase MP joins school’s celebration of ‘Good’ Ofsted rating
Josh Newbury, Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase, has applauded the latest Ofsted rating for Longford Primary Academy, which has been awarded a ‘Good’ status following an inspection in March 2025.
This rating marks a significant improvement since its previous assessment in October 2022, when the school was classified as ‘Requires Improvement’. Longford was last rated ‘Good’ in 2012.
To celebrate the achievement, Mr. Newbury visited the school to meet with Headteacher Miss Lawrence and members of the school council. During his visit, he heard directly from pupils about what they love about their school and discussed his work in Parliament.

Reflecting on the Ofsted report, Josh Newbury said: “I’m genuinely delighted to see Longford Primary Academy recognised as a ‘Good’ school. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire school community including everyone from the leadership and staff to students and their families.

“As the MP for Cannock Chase, I’m committed to ensuring that every school in our constituency delivers the best possible education. Our children deserve learning environments that nurture their growth, talents and potential. That includes making sure schools are properly supported with resources for SEND provision, something I continue to push for in Westminster.”
During the visit, Mr. Newbury spoke to dozens of pupils from a range of year groups on many topics including litter, environmental stewardship, and life at Longford Primary.

Headteacher Miss Lawrence said: “ We are absolutely thrilled with our Good Ofsted report, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire staff team.
"At Longford, we are committed to raising aspirations and are ambitious for every one of our pupils. We are proud to be making a real difference in children's lives through our inclusive and successful provision, especially for those with SEND.
"Our children leave Longford ready for modern life — confident, capable, and equipped to shape their own futures."
With this new milestone, Longford Primary Academy is looking to the future, and will continuously strive for improvement, especially after hitting this important milestone.
Josh Newbury added:
“It was really great to see the school and meet with students, who are always asking the important questions! I’m very excited to see what the future holds for Longford Primary Academy.”
