Families invited to meet Dr Dolittle through a story adventure at county libraries
Children are being invited to an exciting series of storytelling events at libraries as part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
‘Dr Dolittle’, created by the New Vic Theatre Education team, is running between 7 - 15 August across Staffordshire with the aim of bringing the story to life, capturing children’s imaginations and encouraging a love for stories.
Families will step into the world of the wild and set sail with Dolittle, Dab Dab, Chee-Chee, and join the adventure with the world’s most famous animal doctor as they explore new lands, help animals in need and maybe even talk to them too.
Aimed at children aged four and over, the performance is a 35-minute story adventure, packed with playful puppets, fun characters, and plenty of chances for the audience to join in, this one-person show invites young explorers to discover the wonders of nature and the importance of kindness and friendship. It’s a wild adventure full of laughs, learning, and a whole lot of heart.

Hayley Coles, Cabinet Member for Culture & Communities at Staffordshire County Council, said: “We are delighted to be hosting the New Vic Theatre’s wonderful story adventure across our libraries this summer.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for families to come and enjoy the magic and adventure of Dr Dolittle and become part of the story too. It fits perfectly with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and I hope the show encourages children to get involved and spark a love for stories through visiting their local libraries.”
Becky Salt, Education Deputy, Director and Producer of Dr Dolittle, said: “We’re so excited to be touring Staffordshire libraries with Dr Dolittle. This production invites families to interact with stories in a hands-on, imaginative way. It’s a wonderful opportunity to encourage children and their grown-ups to visit their local library, connect through creativity, and embark on a magical journey of adventure together.”
