Park to be transformed into beach with jam-packed entertainment - bringing the seaside to the West Midlands
A park in the West Midlands will be transformed into a beach this month.
The Northfield Beach, at the heart of Victoria Common in Northfield, Birmingham, is back once more for another year of fun and free family activities.
From July 23 until July 26 children, and adults, will be able to enjoy art, music, performances and activities for no charge whatsoever. It will be open to the public between 10am and 4pm each day.
Northfield Beach is an annual free community event that transforms Victoria Common into a temporary urban beach during the summer holidays.
Rather than being a natural beach, the organisers bring in sand and create a seaside-style experience complete with family entertainment, activities and performances.
Last year, more than 10,000 visitors flocked to Northfield Beach between July 23 and 27, with entertainment such as face painting, dinosaurs, circus, live music and more.
The event, organised by the Northfield Community Partnership, has been running for more than a decade and has become one of the area's biggest summer attractions. Attractions have included:
- A large sandy beach
- Free arts and crafts
- Circus performances
- Live music
- Theatre shows
- Dinosaur experiences
- Family games and children's activities
It's often described as Birmingham's "urban beach" because it recreates the feel of a seaside day out without families having to travel to the coast.
Northfield Community Partnership posted on its Facebook page: “Northfield Community Partnership is bringing the beach to you! Join us at Victoria Common for four days as the park is transformed into an urban beach, completely free to attend, with sand, live entertainment, and activities for all ages!
“Have you ever wanted to meet a stegosaurus? Now’s your chance! Visit our Jurassic Beach on Friday 24th July, where there will be prizes to be won!
“There’s something for everyone! Whether you’re coming with family, friends, or just fancy a great day out. We can't wait to welcome you all!”.
