Stunning Staffordshire country house to open two 'magical' walking routes rarely open to the public

A stunning country house in Staffordshire country house is set to open two beautiful walking routes rarely open to the public.

Families across Staffordshire are invited to explore walking routes at a stunning country house that are rarely open to the public.

Walkers will be able to choose from two beautiful routes to enjoy at their own pace between 10am and 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday (4 May) at Chillington Estate.

Chillington Hall and Estate is a hidden gem near Brewood in Staffordshire - around four miles northwest of Wolverhampton.

The routes will take walkers through the stunning grounds and parklands of Chillington Estate, which were designed by acclaimed landscape architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown in the 1760s.

The landscape is home to birds and wildlife, so walkers are encouraged to bring their binoculars.

There will be a 5km route and a slightly shorter 3km route and maps of both routes will be available on the day to pick up from The Stables.

The routes, which are not normally accessible to the public, begin and end at The Stables where there will be a pop-up café for hungry walkers serving hot drinks and homemade cakes.

Dogs are welcome to join the walk but they must be kept on a lead at all times.

The route through the wood is not paved and is therefore unsuitable for pushchairs wheelchairs or motorised scooters.

Tickets are £5 per person, with free entry for children under 16.

With roots back to the 12th century, Chillington Hall has seen hundreds of years of history unfold.

Today, the historic estate is home to the Giffard family who are responsible for the conservation of the Hall and Estate.

Chillington Hall offers guided tours of the grounds and parkland, as well as the stately home, on select days throughout the season.

Led by knowledgeable guides, the tours provide an in-depth history of the hall, the people who have lived there over the years and the treasures it holds.

Tessa Giffard, custodian of Chillington Hall, said: “We’re so excited to welcome people to take a stroll through the walking routes this bank holiday Monday.

“Spring is such a magical time on the estate, when the spring flowers are out and the leaves in the woodland are unfurling.

“We will be holding a small number of events throughout spring and summer to invite people to come and enjoy the beauty of the Hall’s grounds and gardens.

“Keep an eye out on our website and social media channels for more information.”
